Questions, bugs, or something confusing? Here's how to get help.

Email me

Almanac is built by one person, so you'll be talking to the developer directly. Include what you were doing and what happened — your iPhone model and iOS version help too.

hello@almanacapp.app

Getting the app

How do I get the beta?
  1. Install TestFlight from the App Store (Apple's free app for beta testing).
  2. Open the Almanac beta link on your iPhone and tap Accept, then Install.

New builds arrive through TestFlight — open the TestFlight app and tap Update.

Do I need an account?

No. There's no sign-up and no login. Everything you add lives on your phone.

Your data

Where is my data stored?

Only on your device. Because there's no account or server, deleting the app deletes your data — so it's worth exporting a backup now and then (see below).

How do I back up my data or move to a new phone?
  1. Go to Settings and tap Open import & backup.
  2. Tap Export all data (JSON) and save the file somewhere safe (Files, iCloud Drive, email it to yourself).
  3. On the new phone, open the same screen and tap Import JSON.
How do I delete everything?

Go to Settings, scroll to the Danger zone, and tap Delete everything. This permanently removes every person, kid, interaction, and setting on your device, and there's no undo — export a backup first if you might want it back. Deleting the app does the same.

Using Almanac

How do I import my contacts?

Tap Import contacts and allow access when iOS asks. You'll get a checklist — pick the people you want to keep in touch with and tap add. Almanac only reads the contacts you choose.

If you gave Almanac Limited Access and want to add more people, tap Choose more contacts in the list — it takes you to iOS Settings, then come back and open the list again.

Why doesn't Almanac see my calls and texts automatically?

iOS doesn't let any app read your call history or messages — that's an Apple restriction, not something Almanac can work around. Instead, Reach out opens Messages or the phone with a drafted message ready, you send it yourself, and Almanac asks you to log it when you come back. You can also log anything by hand from the Log tab, or tap Caught up on someone.

How do reminders work?

In Settings, find the Reminders card, choose a time of day and whether you want a notification for each event as it comes up (daily) or a single weekly summary on Monday, then turn reminders on and allow notifications.

Reminders are scheduled on your phone about 45 days ahead, so open Almanac at least once a month to keep them topped up. If you don't get any, check iOS Settings → Notifications → Almanac and make sure they're allowed.

Can I use Siri?

Yes (iOS 16 or later). Say “Mark caught up in Almanac” or “Log in Almanac”. Siri will ask who or what, and Almanac opens with the result for you to review before anything is saved.

AI features

What uses AI, and what gets sent?

Quick Capture, gift ideas, message drafts, and voice transcription. Only the text or audio for that request is sent to generate a result — your whole contact list is never uploaded.

The shared AI service keeps a simple usage log to enforce the daily limit: the time, which feature was used, a random anonymous device ID, whether the request worked, and its size. It never records what you typed or said, or the AI's reply. The privacy policy has the full details.

Can I turn AI off completely?

Yes. Open Settings, find the AI section, and turn off Use AI features. With it off, Almanac never sends anything to an AI service, and every feature falls back to working by hand. You can turn it back on any time.

It says I've hit a daily limit. What now?

The built-in AI is shared across beta testers with a daily limit per device. It resets the next day. For unlimited use, add your own key in Settings — an Anthropic key under AI features and/or an OpenAI key under Voice transcription. Keys are stored only on your device.

Something's not working

The app is acting strangely. What should I try?
  1. Force-quit Almanac and reopen it.
  2. Open TestFlight and check for an update — your issue may already be fixed.
  3. Still stuck? Email me with what you tapped and what you expected to happen.

Before trying anything drastic, export a backup (see above) so nothing is lost.

How do I send feedback or request a feature?

Use Send feedback at the top of Settings in the app, or email hello@almanacapp.app. Bugs, ideas, and “this confused me” are all welcome.
