Almanac Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 2, 2026

Almanac is a personal relationship-tracking app built by an independent developer. This policy explains what happens to your data when you use it.

What Almanac stores, and where

Everything you enter into Almanac — contacts, notes, dates, gift ideas, interaction history — is stored only on your device. There is no Almanac account and no company server holding that content. If you delete the app, or don't back it up, that data is gone. (The one exception is anonymous usage analytics, described below — it never includes your contacts' names, your notes, or any message content.)

Your phone's Contacts

If you choose to import people from your phone's Contacts app, Almanac asks iOS for permission first, and only reads the contacts you approve. That information is copied into Almanac's local, on-device storage — it is not uploaded anywhere as part of this import.

AI features

Quick Capture, gift ideas, message drafts, and voice transcription send the relevant text (or audio, for voice notes) to Anthropic's Claude API and/or OpenAI's Whisper API so they can generate a result. That request goes through a small proxy the developer operates, which applies a fair-use daily limit and keeps a simple usage log. That log records only metadata — the time, which feature was used, a random anonymous device ID (not linked to your name, phone number, or contacts), whether the request succeeded, and the request size. It never records what you typed or said, or the AI's reply, and the proxy does not store your content beyond relaying it. If you add your own Anthropic or OpenAI API key in Settings, requests go directly to that provider using your key instead.

Before the first time any AI feature runs, Almanac asks for your permission and explains what will be sent: what you typed or said, the names of people in Almanac, details you've saved about them (such as interests, notes, job, or city), and samples of your own messages so drafts match your voice. Phone numbers and email addresses are not sent, and your phone's Contacts are never uploaded. If you decline, nothing is sent and the feature falls back to working by hand.

AI is optional. In Settings, you can switch off Use AI features at any time. With it off, Almanac never sends anything to an AI service, and every feature falls back to working by hand.

Analytics

The iOS app uses Firebase Analytics (a Google service) to understand how Almanac gets used — things like which screens get opened, whether a reach-out was sent, whether a gift was logged manually or through AI review, and whether a feature like voice transcription succeeded or failed. These events are anonymous and categorical only — they never include your contacts' names, your notes, or the content of any message or draft. Analytics is native-only; it does nothing in a browser.

No ads, no data sales

Almanac does not use advertising networks, and does not sell or share your data with anyone for marketing purposes.

Deleting your data

You can delete everything at any time from Settings → Delete everything, or by deleting the app. To ask a question or request help with data on our end (for example, anything captured by the proxy's rate-limiting), contact hello@almanacapp.app.

Feedback

If you send feedback through the app's feedback form, or email hello@almanacapp.app, it goes directly to the developer and is used only to improve the app and reply to you.
